THE STORY OF SILBAERG

The story of silbaerg begins over 20 years ago, at a time when we were completely addicted to snowboarding. The joy of buttery smooth turns on untracked slopes, new tricks in the park and on the slopes or the fantastic panoramic views is still there like it was in the first winter. Even when we started out, a wish that was still vague at the time was buzzing in our heads: One day, ride a snowboard we created ourselves and feel a bit like Tom Sims, how cool would that be?

But it would take a few more years for this dream to become a reality... The 90s were now history, and so were our youth, and we got closer to the subject while studying materials science. Materials science doesn't sound particularly cool, but in the end it can be. After completing our studies, we remained active in the field as scientists at Chemnitz University of Technology, researching fiber-plastic composites and also stumbling across the “anisotropy-related coupling effect”.

If only this effect could be controlled, it would be a revolution in snowboarding. The dream felt close to hand for the first time in 2006, and yet we still spent 5 years on university research, calculations, building prototypes, lots of test drives, setbacks, evaluating measurement data and further development.

In 2011 the time had finally come when we were able to found silbærg snowboards and produce sophisticated, technologically unique snowboards with patented Bring A.L.D.-Tech.® onto the market. Immediately after producing the first series, we won the ISPO BrandNew Award with silbaerg and our A.L.D.-Tech.® and have been producing our fine boards in small series largely locally ever since. We are continually working to further develop our technology and improve the sustainability of our products. Topics such as bio-based plastics, reduction of waste in production and natural fibers (flax and hemp) are currently the focus of our research activities.
