GERMAN VERSION

A few days ago silbaerg was at the Composites United Innovation Day. The event titled “Composites in Sports Equipment” found at the FES took place in Berlin. There we talked to our colleagues from the Textile Technologies Professorship at Chemnitz University of Technology about bio-based sports equipment.

Together with Paul Baudach from the Textile Technologies Professorship, we gave a lecture at the Composites United Innovation Day about the use of bio-based plastics in sports equipment. It was about the use of flax fibers and bio-based resin systems in snowboards. Our conclusion is that bio-based reinforcing fibers are currently still too expensive. The mechanical properties also need to be improved somewhat for use in our premium snowboards. That's why we're continuing to research the topic...

However, we are continuing to research the topic and will bring a flax or hand fiber snowboard onto the market as soon as it makes sense in terms of price. Until then, we'll continue to use it Glass and carbon fibers . We are constantly reducing waste in production and using bio-based resin systems. We also keep supply chains short to save C02.

In addition to our previous day, there were exciting insights into the work of the FES and Composite United. We also had a lot of good discussions with an outlook on other topics. An example of this is a podcast episode from "The spring" about the use of bio-based composites in snowboards, which will be recorded in the coming days.

All in all, it was a fantastic day in Berlin and we are looking forward to continuing with silbaerg at the Composite United Innovation Day.

However, we are continuing to research the topic and will bring a flax or hand fiber snowboard to market as soon as it makes sense price-wise. Until then, we will continue to use glass and carbon fibers . We are steadily reducing waste in production and using bio-based resin systems. We also keep supply chains short to save C02.

In addition to our presentation, there were exciting insights into the work of FES and Composite United. We also had a lot more good conversations with an outlook on further topics. One example of this, is a podcast episode of “ The Feather ” about the use of bio-based composites in snowboards, which will be recorded in the coming days.

All in all it was a fantastic day in Berlin and we are looking forward to a continuation with silbaerg at the Composite United Innovation Day.
