The initial idea behind creating silbærg was to combine the passion and the lifestyle of snowboarding with academic research. Already in 2006, a group of students and scientific assistants at Chemnitz University of Technology gathered in order to channel their creative visions, ambition and dedication to improve the performance of snowboards.
In 2007, our ideas evolved into the creation of the first prototypes, which were field tested in our home spot Oberwiesenthal, and then tested in the labs of the Chemnitz University of Technology. Now, after four years of intensive development, we are finally ready to present silbærg Snowboards for the winter season 2011/12.
Together with you, we will continue the silbærg story of taking the ultimate snowboard experience to the snowy mountains!
As a business start-up Silbærg evolved from the Institute of Lightweight Structures and Sports Technology of the Chemnitz University of Technology in a close relationship with former co-workers. This leads to a steady transfer of knowledge and technology, both based on research and applied to our snowboards. It enables us to use the latest innovations of material science, computer simulation and biomechanics to enhance our snowboards.
Part of our University research was the construction of a sensor-enhanced snowboard that enables us to measure the exact strains and loads working in a snowboard while riding. Using these data, we were able to programme a computer simulation that allowed us to master the complex ALD-Technology.
In cooperation with the Chemnitz University of Technology we designed various custom testing facilities to secure our high standard of quality. During the stage of development, all of our boards are tested thoroughly. This ensures that all of our products provide the desired riding qualities and the necessary pop, flex and torsion stiffness!
